Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family was a military one and was based in Louisiana as young as nine years old. The singer won an audition competition by singing a rendition of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker resided in Georgia when she was fifteen years old. She'd started writing songs, and she was making regular trips to Nashville, making the rounds of record companies and music publishers looking for an agreement. In 1997, she had reached the age of 17 when a Big Yellow Dog Records rep heard her. He started selling her songs and music to various recording labels and artists. After Mercury Records president David Massey was introduced to Decker's work, he passed them along to L.A. Reid head of the affiliated Island/Def Jam label group and Reid signed her to an agreement with a record label. Jessie James' first album entitled Jessie James and released in August 2009 was her self-titled debut. Jessie James was reasonably successful and also featured Wanted a single that brushed in the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker was always viewed as a country singer, but the album's marketing and production was designed to appeal to an audience more influenced by pop. Decker had to work hard to get control over the music she made available after her two previous singles were not popular. The second album that Decker released with the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and, after the release of three singles fared poorly on the charts for country. Decker was released from her contract.
